Last week brought a bit of celebration mode in our house. Kids has Scouts graduation and a birthday celebration. I made 2 cakes for both occasions. My initial thought was to club both cakes in one post. But I was not justifying either of the cakes by pushing them into single post. So, here’s the first one.

I always used to wonder how beautiful the cake looks with different decorations done by bakers. One of the styles I have been itching to try these days is Marble decorating style. The naughtiness took over to add little surprise to the simple cake element. There would be lot of kids at the party and no one can resist little bits of yumminess aka M&Ms. So, that was my surprise.

Both cakes uses the Vanilla Cake recipe on the blog. Its the moist and yummy cake which uses buttermilk and other simple ingredients.
Marble Cake For Graduation
I used 4 inch cake pans and made 4 layers for this first cake. Chocolate Ganache as the filling between the layers.

Then I cut the center of middle 2 cake layers and filled them with M&Ms. Close it with top layer.
I used buttercream frosting and 2 colors for this scouts themed cake. Blue & yellow. Blue being the base color. You make a crumb coat of the cake with blue frosting first and then full frosting again with same blue. Refrigerate it for 10 mins.

Then make few patches of the second color and smooth it out. Its very simple trick. Decorate it with piping tips of your choice and Voila – beautiful Marble cake with secret surprise is made just like that.

Definitely a crowd pleaser. Do let me know if you tried this technique and tag me at #smithasbakelove.
Love the blend of colours on the cake! ❤️ I also like doing cakes with hidden surprises. It makes it so much fun when cutting it! 🙂
